Sberbank is the largest bank in Central and Eastern Europe. Effective management in all countries of presence is one of the key vectors in Sberbank’s international strategy.
The geographic presence of Sberbank covers 20 countries. The share of international business accounts for 13% of Sberbank Group’s aggregate assets.
By following the motto “By your side” in our international activities, we offer our customers the most favourable terms for their cross-border business, a wide range of products, and we take into account the cultural features of the regions where our Group enjoys its presence.
Sberbank’s first step into the international arena was the acquisition of a bank in Kazakhstan in 2006. This was followed by the purchase of banks in Ukraine and Belarus. The next stage was the opening of representative offices in Germany and China, as well as a branch in India.
The year 2012 was marked by major acquisitions. The Sberbank portfolio was expanded with the foreign assets of Volksbank International, a European group, which extended the geographic presence of Sberbank to nine countries of Central and Eastern Europe under the Sberbank Europe AG brand.
In the same year, the deal to acquire DenizBank opened the Turkish market to Sberbank, and became the largest acquisition in the 177-year history of the Bank.
